Bears Secure D’Andre Swift with a $24.5 Million Deal for Three Years

On March 11, 2024, the Chicago Bears made a significant move by securing running back D’Andre Swift with a three-year contract worth $24.5 million, of which $15.3 million is guaranteed. This news was confirmed by Swift’s agent, Trevon Smith of Athletes First, in a conversation with ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Swift’s journey to the Bears comes after his tenure with the Philadelphia Eagles, who had acquired him from the Detroit Lions in April of the previous year. The trade involved a 2025 fourth-round pick and an exchange of seventh-round picks. This move was particularly meaningful for Swift, as it marked his return to his hometown of Philadelphia. At 25 years old, Swift has impressively set new personal records in his career, with 229 rushing attempts and 1,049 yards, leading to his debut Pro Bowl appearance.

Despite the increased workload, Swift remained resilient, participating in 16 regular-season games, the most he has played since entering the NFL in 2020. Although his rushing statistics saw a significant increase, his receiving numbers experienced a slight dip, with 39 catches for 214 yards. This shift can be attributed to the Eagles’ passing strategy, which primarily focused on wide receivers A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, along with tight end Dallas Goedert.

Nevertheless, Swift’s performance was noteworthy, as he was one of only six running backs to achieve at least 1,000 rushing yards and 35 receptions during the season. Since being drafted in the second round from Georgia, Swift has accumulated 2,729 rushing yards and 23 touchdowns, along with 1,412 receiving yards and eight touchdowns over four seasons.
