Attorneys representing E. Jean Carroll, the former Elle magazine columnist, have made a formal request to the presiding judge in her defamation lawsuit against Donald Trump. They are seeking approval for the $91.63 million bond that Trump, the ex-president, has already secured, albeit with a minor modification to one of its conditions.
This modification aims to shorten the interval between the conclusion of Trump’s appeal and the moment Carroll receives her payment. “Depending on the Court’s preference, Your Honor may directly approve this request, or both parties can present a stipulation or other suitable documents to implement this change,” stated Carroll’s legal team in a letter addressed to Judge Lewis Kaplan on Monday.
This agreement regarding the bond is anticipated to eliminate the necessity for a previously scheduled hearing on the issue that was set for Monday afternoon.
In January, Trump was mandated to compensate Carroll with $83.3 million, plus interest, for defaming her back in 2019. This was after he refuted her claims that he sexually assaulted her in the dressing room of a Manhattan department store during the 1990s.
On Friday, Trump managed to secure a $91.63 million bond to cover the judgment and proceeded to file an appeal against the judgment with the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
