Jennifer Lopez has made the tough decision to cancel seven shows from her eagerly awaited North American tour, marking her first such tour in five years. This tour was meant to celebrate her latest album, “This Is Me… Now,” alongside two related films.
The canceled shows were supposed to take place between August 20 and 31, covering cities like Cleveland, Nashville, Raleigh, Atlanta, Tampa, New Orleans, and Houston. These cancellations were noted on Ticketmaster on a Wednesday, with the Cleveland and Houston dates having been removed from the lineup earlier. They were initially part of the tour’s announcement on February 24 but have since disappeared from the listing. Fans can keep up with the updated schedule through Lopez’s social media platforms.
Despite the tour still boasting an impressive lineup of 30 shows, many tickets remain unsold. A glance at Ticketmaster’s seating charts reveals a significant number of blue (available) seats compared to the grey (sold-out) ones, indicating less than expected ticket sales.
The album, the tour, and the two films are all components of a $20 million self-funded multimedia project. This project delves into Lopez’s personal life, particularly her rekindled romance with Ben Affleck. The couple, who married in 2022, had previously parted ways nearly two decades ago after their movie “Gigli” failed to impress audiences.
A representative for Lopez did not immediately comment on the cancellations. However, the notice to ticket holders was clear: “Unfortunately, the Event Organizer has had to cancel your event. No action is required to obtain a refund.”
The cancellations follow the lukewarm reception of Lopez’s new album, “This Is Me…Now,” her first in ten years, which debuted at number 38 on the Billboard 200 last month.
This ambitious project also includes a musical film titled “This Is Me…Now: A Love Story” and a documentary, “The Greatest Love Story Never Told,” both of which underscore a theme of enduring love.
Lopez shared with Variety her feelings about the project, admitting, “Everybody thought I was crazy. And by the way, I thought I was crazy.”
