Dylan Mulvaney Faces Backlash Over New ‘Days of Girlhood’ Music Video

Dylan Mulvaney, a trans influencer, has released a new music video titled “Days of Girlhood.” This video draws inspiration from Mulvaney’s social media series of the same name, which gained him fame two years ago.

The music video showcases a week in the life of a girl according to Mulvaney. It starts with the struggle to leave bed on Monday, followed by picking up prescription pills on Tuesday. Wednesday is for indulging in retail therapy, and Thursday involves the infamous walk of shame without even knowing his name. The week continues with overspending on Friday, flirting for drinks on Saturday, and ends with a breakdown in the bath on Sunday.

In the nearly four-minute video, Mulvaney sings, “Calling women of all ages. Girls like me gotta learn the basics.” Another line from the song, “Boys on the dance floor, it’s time to clear. The patriarchy’s over. You can hold our beer!” seems to nod towards the Bud Light controversy from the previous year.

The collaboration between Bud Light and Mulvaney last year led to a significant boycott, reportedly causing the beer brand’s parent company to lose up to $1.4 billion in sales.

The release of the music video sparked immediate backlash, with critics arguing that it promotes sexist stereotypes of women. Jaimee Michell, founder of Gays Against Groomers, and Libby Emmons, editor-in-chief of The Post Millennial, were among those who voiced their opinions. Blaze TV host Lauren Chen criticized the portrayal of ‘girlhood’ as promoting negative stereotypes, and conservative podcast host Liz Wheeler commented on Mulvaney’s appearance post-transition.

Mulvaney shared on Instagram that the past year, his second year of publicly transitioning, was marked by “pain.” He views his journey as a victory, despite the challenges.

Furthermore, Mulvaney announced that all proceeds from the music video would be donated to The Trevor Project, a nonprofit organization focused on LGBT youth support.

In a recent event in Austin, Mulvaney disclosed his attempt to mend the situation with Bud Light by proposing a commercial idea. However, the company did not pursue it.
