CMPD Launches Manhunt for Suspect Following Discovery of Mother and Two Children’s Remains in Apartment

In Charlotte, the local police department is on the hunt for a key individual following the discovery of a mother and her two children’s remains in a north Charlotte apartment complex last Friday.

The discovery was made by officers while they were investigating at the Orchard Trace apartments, located off North Tryon Street.

This northeast Charlotte complex is the same place where the mother and her two children were reported missing on March 3, as stated by the police.

On March 8, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department issued an alert about the disappearance of 22-year-old Markayla Johnson and her two children, four-year-old Miracle and seven-month-old Messiah. Johnson had not been in contact with any family members, raising concerns for her and her children’s safety.

Human remains were discovered at the Orchard Trace apartments on March 15, 2024, where the mother and her two kids were previously reported missing.

By Saturday, the police had tentatively identified the remains as belonging to Johnson and her children. The remains were then sent to the medical examiner’s office for official confirmation.

A search warrant executed on March 15 revealed that the victims had been deceased inside Johnson’s apartment.

The police are now searching for a person of interest connected to the case, although no further details have been provided at this time.

The investigation remains active and ongoing, with limited information available at the moment.

This story is still developing.
