In San Antonio, a minor car accident in a Southtown parking lot escalated into a shooting, according to local police.
Around 3 p.m. on Saturday, police received a report of an ongoing shooting at the corner of Applewhite Street and East Fest Street. Upon arrival, they discovered a woman with a leg injury from a gunshot, alongside a witness.
The initial investigation by the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) revealed that the injured woman was driving with a passenger. She had parked her car on the street, inadvertently blocking another vehicle in a nearby restaurant’s parking lot.
The blocked vehicle, a white Mazda, was attempting to reverse when it collided with the passenger side of the woman’s car.
Following the collision, the Mazda’s passenger exited the vehicle, engaged in a heated argument with the woman’s passenger, and then brandished a firearm.
The armed individual fired several shots towards the woman and her passenger, who sought protection by the driver’s side of their car. A bullet struck the woman, a 21-year-old, in her right leg.
After the incident, the shooter and the driver of the Mazda fled the scene. SAPD stated that if apprehended, the shooter would be charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
As of Sunday morning, there has been no update on the condition of the injured woman.
