Lionsgate has successfully acquired the domestic U.S. rights to “Badarawuhi Di Desa Penari” (also known as “Dancing Village: The Curse Begins”), which serves as the prequel to Indonesia’s most successful movie, “KKN Curse of the Dancing Village.”
The movie is a product of the Indonesian studio MD Pictures and is set to make its debut in Los Angeles on April 4. Notably, “Dancing Village: The Curse Begins” holds the distinction of being the first movie from Southeast Asia to be filmed for IMAX. It is also among the five movies worldwide to be produced for IMAX this year.
Directed by Kimo Stamboel, the film features Aulia Sarah, Maudy Effrosina, Jourdy Pranata, and Claresta Taufan. It unfolds in an Indonesian village haunted by a mysterious entity known as Badarawuhi, which brings terror to the villagers.
Manoj Punjabi, the CEO and founder of MD Pictures, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, highlighting it as a significant step for the Indonesian film industry in gaining global recognition. He emphasized the power of entertainment to bridge language and cultural divides, expressing confidence that this collaboration would introduce the richness of Indonesian culture to American audiences and beyond.
