After eluding capture for nearly three decades, a man from Passaic was apprehended this week, as confirmed by authorities. Ramon Florentino Siri, aged 77, faces charges of first-degree attempted murder related to a stabbing incident that occurred in Passaic on September 4, 1997, the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office announced. Additionally, he is charged with two counts of aggravated assault and one count of possessing a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
On the night of the stabbing, Passaic police were called to the scene at Henry Street and Leonard Place following reports of an assault at 10:33 p.m., according to the prosecutor’s office. The victim, whose identity was not disclosed, sustained multiple stab wounds and received medical treatment at St. Joseph’s University Medical Center in Paterson.
Siri was identified as the assailant following an investigation, yet he managed to evade arrest. However, on Tuesday, following a tip-off that Siri was present in the city, Passaic police arrested him in the afternoon without any complications.
Should Siri be found guilty, he is looking at a prison sentence of 10 to 20 years for the attempted murder charge, in addition to five to 10 years for the second-degree aggravated assault charge. The other charges against him, including the third-degree aggravated assault and weapons charges, could result in a prison term of three to five years each.
The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office is urging anyone with further information about the incident to come forward and contact their Tips Line at 1-877-370-PCPO or via email at tips@passaiccountynj.org. The public can also reach out to the Passaic Police Department at 973-365-3900.
