Joe Biden is stepping up his game against Donald Trump. In a sharp retort to Trump’s chaotic press conference in New York on Monday, the president’s campaign branded the former president as “weak and desperate” in both his personal demeanor and his presidential candidacy.
Over the weekend, Trump was seen golfing, spent his morning likening himself to Jesus, and his afternoon spreading falsehoods about possessing funds he clearly lacks. The campaign’s statement highlighted that “America deserves better than a feeble, confused, and tired Donald Trump.”
During a day fraught with legal challenges for Trump, he addressed the media in New York. His comments followed a court session where Judge Juan Merchan dismissed Trump’s request to postpone his criminal hush-money trial, scheduling it for April 15. Trump, visibly upset by the decision, accused Merchan of engaging in a Democratic plot to prevent his return to the presidency. “We’ll be appealing this,” Trump declared, despite the decision being final and not open to a conventional appeal.
Earlier that day, Trump received a piece of favorable news when an appeals court halted New York’s efforts to collect on his civil fraud judgment, allowing Trump 10 days to arrange a $175 million bond. Previously, Trump faced a deadline to secure a $464 million bond, which his legal team indicated last week was beyond his reach. Trump has been vocally lamenting the civil fraud case on Truth Social, even sharing a message he claimed to have received that morning, which compared his situation to the persecution of Jesus Christ.
In the press conference referenced by Biden’s campaign, Trump navigated through his legal troubles, making several blunders. He confused the election with his trial and bizarrely pledged to “bring crime back to law and order.” Additionally, Trump saw no issue in accepting help from foreign governments to cover his bond, despite running for president.
The Biden campaign’s statement was issued shortly after Biden teased Trump for boasting about winning his golf club’s championship. “It is my great honor to be at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach tonight, AWARDS NIGHT, to receive THE CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP TROPHY & THE SENIOR CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP TROPHY,” Trump had announced. “I WON BOTH!”
“Congratulations, Donald,” Biden responded sarcastically. “Quite the accomplishment.”
