Fort Lauderdale Experiences Surge in Spring Break Visitors; Police Respond with Multiple Arrests

In Fort Lauderdale, Florida, the scene has shifted. Following Miami Beach’s decision to enforce new rules and a curfew, many have opted to travel north. Fort Lauderdale now mirrors the vibrant atmosphere of a traditional Miami Beach spring break, albeit with its share of issues.

This year, Miami Beach has seen a quieter spring break season. The festivities and excitement have seemingly moved to Broward County. “We’re grateful Miami shut down, allowing us to explore this wonderful place,” shared Jy’meria Franklin, a visitor from Orlando.

Numerous party-goers in Fort Lauderdale revealed to Local 10 News’ Samiar Nefzi that their initial plans were for a spring break in Miami Beach. However, the introduction of new safety measures in South Beach prompted a change in destination. “Miami Beach ended things with us, so we made our way to Fort Lauderdale,” explained Kephene Wash, who came from Tampa.

It seems Fort Lauderdale has also taken on some challenges that Miami Beach officials were anxious to avoid, with several arrests being made. Fort Lauderdale police reported at least ten arrests related to spring break activities, including two involving out-of-state visitors, from March 4 to March 12. These arrests were for various offenses, ranging from disorderly conduct to drug-related crimes and assaulting an officer.

Contrasting with Miami Beach, Fort Lauderdale currently does not have a curfew, offering a different vibe for spring break celebrations.
