In Montgomery County, Texas, a serious incident unfolded early Sunday morning when a man was shot and killed by deputies. This occurred after he reversed his vehicle into a patrol car during a traffic stop. The event took place on the I-45 feeder road near Pruitt Road around 3 a.m.
Captain Tim Holifield from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office shared details about the incident. It began when the driver failed to stop for deputies who were trying to pull him over. The situation escalated when, after coming across an unrelated accident, the driver finally stopped. As a deputy was exiting his patrol car, the driver put his vehicle in reverse and crashed into the deputy’s car.
The impact of the collision knocked the deputy to the ground. At this point, Holifield explained, deputies responded by opening fire on the driver. Despite being treated at the scene, the driver was later pronounced dead at the hospital. The deputy involved in the collision received medical treatment and was released, while another deputy at the scene was not harmed.
Sheriff Rand Henderson expressed concern over the recent increase in officer-involved shootings. He was grateful that the deputies involved were able to return home to their families and hoped for their full recovery.
The deputies involved in the shooting had relatively little law enforcement experience. One had two and a half years under their belt, while the other had less than a year.
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Texas Rangers and the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office, is conducting a thorough investigation into the shooting.
