A shopping center in California, known as the Pike Outlets in Long Beach, had to shut down earlier than usual on a Saturday. This decision came after about 200 young people gathered there, leading to a violent altercation and later, a teenager being shot.
The incident unfolded around 5:40 p.m. on that Saturday when police officers noticed a fight erupting at the location. The Long Beach Police Department had already stationed several officers around the outdoor mall. They were preparing for a large gathering of minors, rumored to have been organized through social media.
To ensure the safety of all visitors and prevent any illegal activities, the Long Beach Police Department sent additional officers to the scene. According to the police, the clash involved a premeditated fight between an adult female and a female juvenile, which was advertised on social media platforms.
A video captured the moment the fight broke out, showing a large group of young people encircling the participants. Many of them were recording the event on their mobile phones. The police quickly stepped in, arresting the two individuals involved in the fight.
In light of these events, the businesses at the Pike decided it was best to close their doors early as a precautionary measure. The outlet mall was cleared out by 6:00 p.m., and everyone, including shoppers, was asked to leave the premises.
The police issued a warning that anyone found on the mall property after a given time would be arrested for trespassing. Roughly an hour after the altercation, the police were called to a nearby location following reports of a shooting. A teenage boy was found with a gunshot wound to his lower body and was immediately taken to a hospital. He is reported to be in stable condition.
It remains unclear whether the shooting was related to the earlier gathering or the brawl. In response to these incidents, the police have announced plans to increase patrols around the outlet mall to prevent further disturbances.
