Tragic Family Loss in Kermanshah: Woman, Mother, and Brother Victims of Ex-Husband’s Violence Amidst Ongoing Struggle Against Misogyny in Kurdistan

In Kermanshah, a tragic event unfolded, involving a woman, her mother, and her brother, who lost their lives at the hands of her former spouse.

This incident adds to the growing list of crimes against women in Kurdistan, occurring under a regime criticized for its misogynistic attitudes.

The information comes from Hengav, a Kurdish human rights organization, highlighting the urgent need to address violence against women.

The victim, identified as Maryam Razmjo, was a young woman pursuing her first year in radio-oncology at Kermanshah University of Medical Sciences. Her life was brutally cut short by her ex-husband, who also murdered her mother and brother during the attack.

The tragic event took place on the evening of March 14, 2024. After entering the home of Maryam’s father’s family, the perpetrator used a firearm to commit the heinous act.

Following the crime, the ex-husband fled the scene but was apprehended by authorities a few hours later.

Details surrounding the motive of the attacker remain unclear, with only brief mentions of “previous differences” by government media outlets.
