Cage the Elephant has climbed to the top of Billboard’s Adult Alternative Airplay chart, marking their first number one hit in almost four years. Their latest single, “Neon Pill,” has moved up to the top spot from its previous position at number two, as of the chart dated March 23.
The band is no stranger to success on this chart. “Neon Pill” represents their first chart-topper since “Black Madonna” held the number one position for two weeks back in April 2020. Following “Black Madonna,” Cage the Elephant also saw their song “Skin and Bones” reach number three in February 2021.
This achievement adds to Cage the Elephant’s impressive record, marking their sixth number one hit on the Adult Alternative Airplay chart. Their history of success on this chart began with “Come a Little Closer,” which led the chart for two weeks in March 2014. Other number one hits include “Mess Around,” “Ready To Let Go,” and “Social Cues.”
Additionally, “Neon Pill” is performing well on other charts. It currently holds the number three spot on the Alternative Airplay chart and has been ranked at number 30 on the Mainstream Rock Airplay chart, after peaking at number 29.
On the Rock & Alternative Airplay chart, which measures audience impressions across all rock formats, “Neon Pill” has risen to number five. This move comes with a 2% increase in audience impressions, totaling 5.2 million from March 8-14, according to Luminate. This achievement marks the band’s 11th top-five hit on this chart, their first since “Skin and Bones” dominated for five weeks starting in February 2021.
“Neon Pill” serves as the lead single and title track for Cage the Elephant’s upcoming sixth studio album. The album is scheduled for release on May 17 through 110/RCA Records. It is the follow-up to “Social Cues,” which debuted and reached its highest position at number three on the Top Rock & Alternative Albums chart in May 2019. To date, “Social Cues” has accumulated 469,000 equivalent album units.
All Billboard charts dated March 23 will be updated and available on Billboard.com on Tuesday, March 19.
