“Dune 2” Inches Closer to a Monumental Milestone at the Domestic Box Office

Kung Fu Panda 4 is on the brink of a major win, with projections showing it could rake in $8.8 million. It’s on the verge of hitting the $100 million mark, a significant milestone. Dune: Part Two is not far behind, with expectations of a $28 million haul. It’s on track to surpass $200 million domestically and $400 million worldwide. In the race for the top five, Arthur the King is predicted to open with $8 million. Meanwhile, Imaginary and Cabrini are each expected to bring in over $2 million.

March has been an exciting month at the box office, with several big films making their mark. Now, we’re set for an epic showdown between two sequels. Dune: Part Two, in its third week, and Kung Fu Panda 4, which had a strong opening last week, are vying for the top spot.

Kung Fu Panda 4 looks set to secure a narrow victory with an $8.8 million haul on its second Friday. After a $58 million opening weekend, it’s poised to cross the $100 million threshold, joining Dune: Part Two as the second Hollywood film of 2024 to achieve this feat. Despite a projected 46% drop from its opening weekend, this could be its biggest weekend yet.

Dune: Part Two, on the other hand, is expected to see a softer 35% drop in its third weekend, aiming for a $28 million haul. It’s set to cross both the $200 million domestic and $400 million global marks. There’s also a chance it could outperform the original Dune’s lifetime global box office of $433 million.

This weekend, audiences have a variety of genres to choose from, including sci-fi, horror, animation, and family films. Arthur the King, starring Mark Wahlberg, is the only new release in the top five. It’s expected to open with $8 million, which is below the $14 million opening of the similar family film Dog from 2022. However, with an A CinemaScore, Arthur the King could have a promising run.

Cabrini is set to take the fifth spot, with a projected $2.5 million in its second weekend. Love Lies Bleeding and Bob Marley: One Love are also performing well, with the latter inching closer to the $100 million mark.

Dune: Part Two continues to captivate audiences with its story of Paul Atreides joining forces with Chani and the Fremen in a quest for revenge. With a release date of March 1, 2024, and a runtime of 166 minutes, this sci-fi epic directed by Denis Villeneuve is not to be missed.
