No hard feelings!
A fan of Madonna, who uses a wheelchair, holds no ill will towards the pop icon despite a mix-up at a recent concert where she was asked to stand. “Some people in wheelchairs can stand up — she didn’t know I was paralyzed,” shared Vanessa Gorman, a paraplegic since a car accident in 1999, with TMZ. Gorman believes Madonna’s request wasn’t meant to be hurtful. At a recent performance, Madonna noticed Gorman seated and questioned why, not realizing her situation. Upon understanding, Madonna quickly offered her apologies.
Earlier in the month, during a Los Angeles concert, Madonna noticed Gorman sitting and called her out, seeking an explanation for her being seated. Madonna, aged 65, soon realized her mistake and promptly apologized to Gorman. “Oh, OK. Politically incorrect. Sorry about that,” Madonna expressed, acknowledging her presence. The incident, captured and widely viewed online, sparked significant discussion and criticism.
Critics argued Madonna’s apology was insufficient, with some suggesting a ticket refund for Gorman. Despite the backlash, Gorman stated she wasn’t offended by Madonna’s actions. The event is among several notable moments from Madonna’s “Celebration” tour, which also saw the singer taking a fall during a Seattle show. However, Madonna quickly recovered, continuing her performance with a laugh.
Madonna’s tour faced a delay last year due to a health scare that required hospitalization. Reports from August 2023 revealed she was hospitalized with a severe bacterial infection, leading to intensive care. Madonna, reflecting on her health challenges at a December concert, remarked on her survival as a “f—king miracle.”
