Shakira Reveals Sacrificing Career Progress for Former Partner Gerard Pique

Shakira has shared insights into her 11-year relationship with Gerard Piqué.

In a recent conversation with The Sunday Times, the Colombian music icon, aged 47, opened up about the personal sacrifices she made for her relationship with the 37-year-old football star. Shakira revealed that she paused her career to support Gerard’s football journey. This pause came just before the release of her first album in seven years, “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran” (Women Don’t Cry Anymore), which is set to launch on March 22. She emphasized the extent of her sacrifices for love.

In June 2022, Shakira and Piqué, parents to two sons, Milan, 11, and Sasha, 9, announced their separation. They released a joint statement, highlighting their children’s well-being as their utmost priority and requested privacy.

The couple met while Shakira was promoting her 2010 World Cup anthem, “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa),” and went public with their relationship a year later. In a Billboard cover story last year, Shakira expressed her belief in lifelong commitment, inspired by her parents’ enduring love. However, she acknowledged that her dream did not materialize as hoped.

Gerard Piqué spoke about the breakup for the first time in March, in an interview with El Pais. He chose not to delve into personal details, focusing instead on their children’s well-being and his role as a father.

Shakira, on the other hand, has been vocal about her side of the breakup. She released a song with Bizarrap, “BZRP Music Sessions #53,” which not only topped the Hot Latin Songs chart but also set 14 Guinness World Records.
