In Oklahoma City, a heartwarming collaboration has emerged between the local Animal Welfare and a new movie, aiming to bring joy and new homes to several dogs. This partnership covered the adoption fees for the first 20 dogs at the shelter this Saturday.
Currently, the OKC Animal Welfare shelter is facing a challenge with its capacity. They are caring for over 400 dogs, which is 140% more than their usual capacity. This Saturday, Lionsgate Media stepped in to assist, offering a helping hand to ensure some of these dogs find their forever homes.
Jon Gary, the Superintendent of OKC Animal Welfare, shared his enthusiasm about the collaboration with Lionsgate Media. He explained that this effort was in support of the movie “Arthur the Kingdom,” with the aim to encourage more adoptions beyond the initial 20 sponsored ones.
The lucky first 20 individuals who adopted a dog not only gave a dog a new home but were also treated to tickets to see “Arthur the King” in theaters. They received goodie bags and had the opportunity for a special photo session with their new furry family member.
Kathy Thompson, the owner and photographer at OKKat Photography, was there to capture these special moments. She emphasized her role in showcasing the unique personalities of the dogs through her photography.
The partnership was inspired by “Arthur the King,” a film based on a true story. It tells the tale of an unbreakable bond between Michael Light, a professional adventure racer played by Mark Wahlberg, and Arthur, a stray dog. The story highlights the journey of Arthur, who follows Michael through the jungle, showcasing the loyalty and love of a dog in search of a home.
Jon Gary pointed out that the movie reflects the real-life stories of many shelter dogs. He addressed the common misconception that shelter dogs are less desirable, stating that this is far from the truth. He believes the film does an excellent job of portraying the value and love shelter dogs can bring to families.
For those interested in adopting a dog from OKC Animal Welfare, more information is available on their website. This initiative not only helps to alleviate the shelter’s overcapacity issue but also brings attention to the importance of adopting shelter dogs, providing them with the loving homes they deserve.
