In Seaford, Delaware, Ty Cuffee has made a triumphant return home after surviving a severe dog attack. On March 5th, Cuffee faced a terrifying ordeal when three mixed-breed dogs attacked him.
We had the opportunity to speak with Cuffee on March 20th, where he shared the courageous act that likely saved his step-daughter’s life. The incident unfolded in his driveway, where Cuffee, embodying the protective spirit of a devoted father, positioned himself between the threatening dogs and his step-daughter.
The situation began when a neighbor requested help from Cuffee’s eldest step-daughter to round up their escaped pets. “The moment I heard one or two dogs barking aggressively, my paternal instincts immediately took over,” Cuffee recounted. “I dropped everything to ensure everything was okay.”
Upon stepping outside, Cuffee was confronted by one dog poised to attack. “I instructed her to keep her distance, and I placed myself between her and the dog,” he explained. “That’s when the first dog lunged at me, and from there, my memory becomes hazy.”
Cuffee regained consciousness three days later, upon the removal of his breathing tube. “I initially thought I was still in the ambulance that Tuesday evening. When they removed the tube, my first reaction was to express my gratitude, saying ‘thank you, Jesus,’ knowing I had survived the ordeal,” Cuffee shared.
Now back with his family, including his wife Courtney, who Cuffee describes as his pillar of strength, he is on the mend. Although the staples in his head were removed on Wednesday, his legs and ear still require time to heal fully.
Despite the physical injuries and the challenging recovery ahead, Cuffee is confident in his actions. “In the end, I achieved both of my objectives. I protected my daughter, and although the dogs managed to bring me down, they didn’t defeat me,” Cuffee stated with resolve.
