In Washington, President Joe Biden’s campaign has successfully gathered a remarkable $155 million for the 2024 election. This amount significantly surpasses what Donald Trump, his Republican rival, has managed to collect.
Last month alone, Biden’s campaign raised $53 million. This achievement marks the most successful month of grassroots fundraising since the campaign’s inception, as stated by campaign officials. A notable event contributing to this success was a fundraiser held on March 28 in New York. The event featured Biden alongside Barack Obama and Bill Clinton and raised $4 million.
Biden shared his enthusiasm during a radio interview with WNOV 860 in Wisconsin. He highlighted the campaign’s strong financial support, mentioning that it has attracted 1.5 million donors. Impressively, 500,000 of these donors are new, and they primarily consist of small donors, with 97% of the donations being under $200.
Both Biden and Trump have secured their party nominations, setting the stage for a rematch in the 2024 election.
Trump’s campaign, on the other hand, has not disclosed its February financial figures. As of January’s end, his two main committees had a combined $36.6 million. These committees spent more than they earned in January, with a significant portion of the expenses going towards legal fees from Trump’s numerous court cases. The financial status of Trump’s campaign will become clearer when additional branches disclose their figures in April.
Biden’s campaign boasts the highest cash on hand ever recorded by a Democratic candidate at this stage of the campaign. The campaign attributes last month’s surge in support to emails sent to Biden’s supporters, raising concerns about Trump.
Jaime Harrison, the leader of the Democratic National Committee, contrasted the financial situations of the Biden campaign and the Trump campaign. Harrison emphasized the historic grassroots fundraising achievements of Biden and the Democrats, while pointing out the financial challenges faced by Trump and the RNC. He stressed the importance of the current year’s stakes, urging grassroots supporters to contribute as if democracy depended on it.
