Former President Trump made a significant appearance in Ohio on Saturday. He was there to support Bernie Moreno, a Republican businessman aiming for a primary win. Moreno is setting his sights on competing against Democrat Sherrod Brown for a U.S. Senate seat.
Trump’s rally in Dayton was charged with discussions on illegal immigration, highlighting the surge of migrants and the associated crimes. He emphasized the tragic loss of Laken Riley, a nursing student from the University of Georgia, as a consequence of these issues.
Trump made a strong statement, “Not one more American life should be lost to migrant crime. We can’t have another Laken.” He criticized President Biden’s policies for their role in allowing migrants, including dangerous individuals, into the U.S. Trump promised swift action against these policies if re-elected.
He confidently stated, “The fastest way to reverse Biden’s disasters is simply to bring me back into office.”
Trump’s visit was strategically timed just days before the GOP Senate primary. He praised Moreno as a “hero” and “a winner,” urging Ohioans to choose him over “radical left Democrat Sherrod Brown.”
Trump criticized Brown for his political stance, despite Brown’s attempts to align himself with Trump in advertisements. Trump clarified, “He’s not with me.”
The U.S.-Mexico border and Biden’s policies on immigration were focal points of Trump’s speech in Ohio. He vowed to address these issues immediately upon his potential return to office.
Trump also expressed his disapproval of Biden’s recent apology for using the term “illegal” to describe an individual involved in a crime, suggesting a soft stance on illegal immigration.
The former president shared a poignant moment with the family of Laken Riley, emphasizing the tragic consequences of current immigration policies. He labeled Riley’s killer as an “illegal monster” who should not have been in the country.
Trump didn’t hold back in his criticism of the MS-13 gang and other violent migrants, questioning their humanity and criticizing the left’s response to his views.
He reiterated his view of Biden as a significant threat to democracy, citing misuse of power and incompetence.
Trump rallied his supporters to vote in the upcoming elections, emphasizing the importance of winning Ohio and other key states to regain control of the Senate.
Despite challenges with his teleprompter due to the wind, Trump showcased his ability to engage the crowd without it, contrasting himself with Biden.
He outlined his campaign priorities for 2024, focusing on border security, economic issues, energy independence, and preventing global conflict.
Bernie Moreno, who legally immigrated from Colombia and became a successful businessman in Cleveland, received Trump’s endorsement in December. The GOP primary winner will challenge Sherrod Brown, the only Democrat to win statewide in Ohio in the last decade, as Republicans aim to secure a Senate majority.
With Democrats holding a narrow majority, the upcoming elections present a favorable opportunity for Republicans, who are defending fewer seats.
