Conor McGregor thoroughly enjoyed his time playing the villain in the big-screen reboot of “Road House.” However, he’s eager to return to his primary profession in the UFC.
In recent weeks, the Irish superstar has been busy promoting the movie. He’s attended festivals like South by Southwest in Texas and a film premiere in London alongside his fellow cast members.
The promotional tour is set to continue in New York. “Road House” is scheduled to premiere on Prime Video on March 21.
Once his commitments to the film are fulfilled, McGregor is keen to shift his focus entirely back to his fighting career. He’s looking to make a comeback in the UFC as soon as possible.
“I can’t wait to dive back into training, to refocus and plan my return to the octagon,” McGregor expressed during a press conference for “Road House.” “The first quarter of 2024 is already here, but there’s still plenty of time left in the year.”
He added, “I have two fights remaining on my contract. We’re currently in negotiations. Once the movie promotions and St. Patrick’s day celebrations are over, I’ll be isolating myself to concentrate fully on my return to the octagon.”
Despite spending a lot of time promoting “Road House,” McGregor constantly faces questions about his next fight. Unfortunately, he doesn’t have any concrete answers yet.
McGregor has expressed his desire to fight at the UFC 303 event on June 29 during International Fight Week 2024. However, UFC CEO Dana White hopes for McGregor’s return in the fall, without providing a specific date for his fight against Michael Chandler.
White often mentions McGregor’s significant wealth as a reason for the delay in his return. Nonetheless, McGregor doesn’t see that as an obstacle. His promotional obligations for “Road House” might have prevented him from participating in the UFC 300 event on April 13, but he appears ready to compete otherwise.
Regarding future acting roles, McGregor is open to the idea but isn’t in a hurry to return to acting.
“Right now, I’m not considering another role,” he stated. “After all the hard work, I’ll leave it to the professionals. It was a challenging experience.”
He continued, “Maybe after my fight, perhaps next year, I might consider it. I won’t say never because I had a fantastic time, made lifelong friends, and enjoyed working with Amazon. The future in this industry is uncertain, but who knows what it may bring.”
