Drake recently received a special Coogs jersey, bearing the number 24. Tilman Fertitta remarked that this number signifies an extraordinary year ahead for the University of Houston.
In Houston, Drake is throwing his support behind the University of Houston’s Men’s basketball team. The team recently clinched a top seed position for the upcoming NCAA Division I men’s basketball tournament. This marks the second consecutive year the University of Houston has achieved a No. 1 seed. Unfortunately, last season ended with a loss to Miami in the Sweet 16.
This season, the Houston team is the top seed in the South Region. Their first game is against No. 16 Longwood in Memphis. If they win, they might face No. 9 Texas A&M in the next round, assuming Texas A&M overcomes No. 8 Nebraska.
The team and their supporters gathered at the Post Oak Hotel to watch the NCAA selection show. Following the announcement, a special event took place in the hotel’s penthouse. Drake and Tilman Fertitta joined the team for a fundraiser, where Drake was honored with a Coogs jersey.
The jersey, featuring the number 24, symbolizes a promising year for the University of Houston, according to Fertitta. Additionally, another jersey signed by Drake will be auctioned off.
Drake expressed his excitement and well wishes to the team. He mentioned that he and Fertitta are discussing exciting plans for the University of Houston.
Drake shared his affection for Houston, stating that despite his Canadian roots, he finds himself drawn back to Houston. He now splits his time between Canada and Houston, looking forward to spending more time in the city.
The Houston team finished the season with a remarkable record and topped the AP college basketball rankings. They won the regular season conference championship but were defeated by Iowa State in the Big 12 tournament title game.
This year marks the third time Houston has secured a No. 1 seed in the school’s history. The team aims to surpass their previous performances in the NCAA tournament, building on the legacy of the 1983 team that reached the national championship game and last season’s team that made it to the Sweet 16.
