Texas football enthusiasts are always on the lookout for the latest updates on their quarterbacks.
Quinn Ewers, entering his third year as the starting quarterback, has added 10 pounds of muscle to enhance his durability against tough tackles. His performance at the recent pro day was also noteworthy. Meanwhile, Arch Manning is making a strong impression in the No. 2 spot after a redshirt season.
“Both players are performing exceptionally well,” remarked Texas coach Steve Sarkisian. “With Quinn in his third year and Arch in his second, their leadership and ability to elevate the team’s performance are crucial. It’s about more than just their knowledge or skill; it’s about ensuring the entire team is mentally and physically prepared to succeed alongside them.”
During last week’s Texas pro day, Sarkisian expressed his satisfaction with the progress of both Ewers and backup quarterback Arch Manning. He also noted that newcomer quarterback Trey Owens has shown promising potential in the initial days of practice.
In addition, the Texas football schedule for 2025 has been announced, detailing every SEC opponent the Longhorns will face.
Freshman quarterback Trey Owens, hailing from Houston Cypress-Fairbanks, has already caught the eye of many during Monday’s practice. At 6-foot-5 and 236 pounds, Owens demonstrated his capability as a quarterback, confidently navigating Royal-Memorial Stadium.
“Trey has a natural talent for passing,” Sarkisian, a former All-American quarterback himself, observed. “His proficiency was evident in practice. He’s adept at making all the necessary throws. Despite the pressure of learning our offense over just four practices, he remains composed. If anything, he’s overly critical of himself.”
Sarkisian praised Owens for his impressive performance during the initial four days of practice and his dedication to improving his physique during the offseason. “The future looks bright for him,” he added.
If the quarterback development plan proceeds as expected, Ewers will move on to the NFL draft next year, leaving Manning to step into the starting role. This transition would position Owens as a contender for the No. 2 spot, potentially setting him up as a future starter in the coming years.
