A Lebanese migrant was detained near El Paso, Texas, after he reportedly confessed to being a Hezbollah terrorist. He was on his way to New York with intentions to construct a bomb.
Basel Bassel Ebbadi, a 22-year-old Lebanese citizen, was taken into custody by Border Patrol agents after he unlawfully crossed into the United States from Mexico close to El Paso. “I’m going to try to make a bomb,” Ebbadi revealed to the Border Patrol agents when questioned about his reasons for entering the U.S., as per an exclusive report by the New York Post.
Ebbadi was apprehended on March 9 as he made his way from Mexico into Texas. Following his capture, the agents transported him to a secure facility in El Paso for further processing and investigation. It was during this time, two days after his arrest, that Ebbadi disclosed his bomb-making plans to the agents. This led to his immediate isolation and the involvement of the Tactical Terrorism Response Team for a detailed interview.
In the interview conducted on March 12, after being read his rights, Ebbadi confessed to being a part of a foreign terrorist organization. He also shared that he had undergone training with Hezbollah for seven years and was an active member for an additional four years, during which he was responsible for guarding weapon storage locations.
In the first four months of Fiscal Year 24, starting from October 1, 2023, nearly 60 migrants who illegally entered the United States were identified as being on the terror watch list. This number is a significant increase from the approximately 270 migrants who were apprehended in the previous two fiscal years, setting a new record.
