Over the weekend, President Joe Biden made a point to encourage applause from those gathered at the White House. He did this during his speech on St. Patrick’s Day.
The occasion was marked by Biden’s speech, which he delivered alongside Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar. They were there to honor the contributions of Irish people to America.
Biden highlighted the strong connection between millions of Irish Americans and the people of America. He spoke of the enduring friendship between the two countries. This friendship, he noted, has influenced our history, enriches our present, and promises to brighten our future.
This year marks a century of diplomatic relations between the two nations, Biden pointed out. He emphasized that economic interactions are growing stronger and that both nations uphold similar principles.
“Ireland is among the top ten investors in the United States,” Biden remarked. He stressed the united stance of both countries in championing freedom and opposing oppression. Specifically, he mentioned their collective condemnation of Russia’s aggressive actions in Ukraine. “You can clap for that, please,” he encouraged the audience.
During a meeting with Varadkar, Biden also commended a speech by Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer. Schumer’s speech criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Biden acknowledged Schumer’s effort to inform his team about the speech. He chose not to delve into details but agreed that Schumer had delivered a compelling speech. Biden noted that Schumer’s words reflected the concerns of many Americans.
