Marvel Studios executive Brad Winderbaum shared insights on the studio’s rapid content production for Disney+.
The competition among streaming services intensified when Disney launched its own platform, challenging Netflix. This move prompted many Hollywood studios to create their own streaming services, sparking a race for exclusive content. Disney+ aimed to fill its library with fresh, exclusive films and shows right from the start.
Brad Winderbaum, the head of Marvel Studios, revealed in a Phase Zero podcast interview that there was an initial push to quickly generate as much content for Disney+ as possible. However, the strategy soon shifted, leading to more spaced-out release dates. This change caused some delays, but Winderbaum believes it allows for better development of projects. He described the situation as a result of the industry’s dynamics.
Winderbaum also mentioned that Marvel Studios is now operating more like a traditional studio, developing more projects than it will eventually produce. This approach means some projects might not see the light of day. Among the potential projects is a show based on Nova, a character Winderbaum is particularly fond of, though he acknowledges the unpredictable nature of bringing projects to fruition.
Marvel Studios has announced the animated series “X-Men ’97,” which revisits the beloved 1990s era of the X-Men. The series will follow the mutant group as they navigate new and challenging futures. The voice cast includes Ray Chase as Cyclops, Jennifer Hale as Jean Grey, and several others reprising iconic roles.
“X-Men ’97” is set to debut on March 20th, and fans can watch the full interview with Brad Winderbaum on the Phase Zero podcast to learn more about Marvel Animation’s upcoming projects.
