Shakira is embracing a new chapter in her life. On March 22, the renowned “Hips Don’t Lie” artist is set to unveil her 12th studio album titled “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran.” This release marks a significant moment, arriving seven years after her 2017 album “El Dorado.”
In a recent conversation with the Sunday Times, Shakira shared insights into her latest project. “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran,” or “Women No Longer Cry” in English, blends various musical styles including pop, rap, and reggaeton. Shakira describes the album as a journey of transforming pain into creativity, frustration into productivity, and anger into passion. It’s about turning vulnerability into resilience.
Shakira opened up about the personal challenges she faced, particularly her public breakup with former soccer star Gerard Piqué. She reflected on how she had to reconstruct her life, with music serving as the glue that held her pieces together. Shakira admitted to pausing her career to support Piqué’s football endeavors, a testament to the sacrifices she made for love.
The couple’s separation was announced in June 2022 after 11 years together, and Piqué later confirmed a new relationship on Instagram. Shakira addressed the split in her January 2023 song “Shakira: Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53,” which earned her the song of the year at the 2023 Latin Grammys. The title “Las mujeres ya no lloran” is a lyric from this track.
In the song, Shakira delivers powerful lines that hint at her feelings post-breakup, comparing her worth to that of two 22-year-olds and making pointed remarks about her ex’s choices. Shakira and Piqué share two sons, Milan and Sasha. Shakira revealed that her sons have learned to accept pain as part of life, with Milan even expressing his feelings through music.
Reflecting on “Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53,” Shakira sees it as a means to confront and release the turmoil she experienced. It was a therapeutic process that allowed her to channel her emotions into her music.
