In Concord, North Carolina, a tragic incident unfolded at a local 7-Eleven store located at the intersection of Ellenwood and Harris roads, close to the boundary between Concord and Huntersville.
The situation began when Michael Pride spent several hours in the restroom of the convenience store. This unusual behavior led to a request for him to leave the premises. However, this request escalated into a confrontation between Pride and a store clerk.
The clerk, identified as Salverio Campagna, ended up shooting and killing Pride outside the store. This shocking event has left the community and Pride’s family searching for answers. Kacie Allen-Pride, the victim’s wife, expressed her incomprehension and grief, stating that the incident was unnecessary and her husband did not deserve to meet such a tragic end.
Local shoppers were equally startled by the news. Taylor Mathis, a customer, remarked on the peculiarity of someone spending hours in a bathroom but strongly condemned the use of lethal force over such an issue. Another customer, Daquan Robinson, acknowledged the gravity of the situation but also pointed to the right to bear arms.
Authorities have since charged Campagna with murder, and he is currently being held at the Cabarrus County jail without the possibility of bond.
This incident has sparked a wide range of reactions from the community, highlighting the complexities surrounding self-defense laws and the value of human life.
