AMC Revives Sci-Fi Drama for Season 4 Following TNT Cancellation

The much-anticipated final season of “Snowpiercer” has secured a new broadcasting spot.

AMC will be the new home for the fourth season of this captivating sci-fi drama, following the acquisition of rights from Tomorrow Studios. This move comes after TNT decided to drop the series last year, as part of a broader strategy by Warner Bros. Discovery to cut down on content.

In January 2023, Deadline reported that the series would not return to its original platform, amidst a wave of content reductions that also saw the cancellation of projects like “Batgirl,” Abrams’ HBO drama “Demimonde,” and TBS series including “The Big D,” “Chad,” and “Kill The Orange Bear.”

AMC has once again stepped in to rescue a series abandoned by another network, having previously saved the Captain Nemo series “Nautilus” from being axed by Disney+.

Fans can look forward to streaming the first three seasons on AMC+ later this year, with the fourth season set to premiere on both the linear network and the streaming service in early 2025.

“Snowpiercer” is set in a chilling future where the world has turned into a frozen wasteland. The series follows the last remnants of humanity living on a constantly moving train, consisting of 1001 cars, that travels around the globe. The third season ended with a dramatic split of the train, with Melanie Cavill (played by Jennifer Connelly) at the helm of the Eternal Engine and a group of passengers opting for the safety of Snowpiercer, while Andre Layton (Daveed Diggs) leads another group on Big Alice to explore the new world of New Eden.

The cast also includes Sean Bean, Rowan Blanchard, Alison Wright, Mickey Sumner, Iddo Goldberg, Katie McGuinness, Lena Hall, Sam Otto, Chelsea Harris, Mike O’Malley, Roberto Urbina, and Sheila Vand, with Clark Gregg and Michael Aronov joining in season four.

The executive production team for season four includes Paul Zbyszewski, who also serves as the showrunner, Christoph Schrewe, Marty Adelstein, Becky Clements, Alissa Bachner from Tomorrow Studios, Matthew O’Connor, Ben Rosenblatt, Scott Derrickson, and producers of the original film such as Bong Joon Ho, Miky Lee, Jinnie Choi, Park Chan-wook, Lee Tae-hun, and Dooho Choi. Tomorrow Studios and CJ Entertainment produce the show, with ITV Studios handling international distribution and brokering the deal.

Ben Davis, EVP of original programming for AMC Networks and AMC Studios, expressed excitement about adding “Snowpiercer” to their lineup, highlighting the show’s thrilling nature and dedicated fanbase. He looks forward to offering viewers the chance to binge-watch the first three seasons in anticipation of the fourth season’s premiere in 2025.

Paul Zbyszewski shared his enthusiasm for finding a new home for “Snowpiercer,” expressing gratitude towards AMC and Tomorrow Studios for allowing the show’s fans to experience the fourth season, a testament to the hard work of the cast and crew.
