Glastonbury Festival to Host Seventeen as Its First-Ever K-Pop Headlining Act

This summer, Glastonbury, one of England’s most iconic music festivals, is set to make history. For the first time, a K-pop group, Seventeen, will headline the festival’s Pyramid Stage. They’ll share the spotlight with renowned artists like Dua Lipa, Coldplay, SZA, Shania Twain, LCD Soundsystem, and PJ Harvey. This follows the trend set by Blackpink, who headlined BST Hyde Park in London last year, marking a significant moment for K-pop in the UK.

The festival is scheduled to run from June 26 to June 30 at Michael Eavis’ Worthy Farm in Pilton. Those interested in attending can find ticket information on the festival’s official website. This year’s lineup also includes first-time performers such as Cyndi Lauper, Camila Cabello, and Avril Lavigne, with over 200,000 people expected to join the festivities.

Seventeen isn’t just stopping at Glastonbury; they’re set to perform at various festivals across Europe this summer. This comes as a makeup for their 2020 dates, which were canceled due to the global Covid-19 pandemic.

In January, Seventeen unveiled a new track, “The Meaning of Meeting,” during a concert in Macao, China. Performed in Mandarin, the song’s release marked the group’s first original track in the language, despite having released Chinese versions of their songs previously. The song’s video features concert footage from Macao, showcasing the group’s international appeal.

Following the release of their latest album, “Seventeenth Heaven,” and the single “FML,” Seventeen also introduced their first English-language single, “Darl+ing,” last year. This move underscores the group’s commitment to connecting with fans worldwide, regardless of language barriers.

S.Coups, a member of Seventeen, shared with Rolling Stone their approach to music. He emphasized the group’s effort to present themselves authentically across different languages, acknowledging the effort international fans make to understand their music. This mutual dedication fosters a deeper connection between Seventeen and their global audience, transcending linguistic boundaries.
