In her latest music video for “Art,” from her self-titled debut album released on Friday, March 22, Tyla takes on dual roles as both the subject and the creator. Departing from her usual position in front of the camera, the South African singer-songwriter becomes the centerpiece of a painting, lounging on a chaise in a sheer red corset dress paired with clear thigh-high boots. The plot thickens when a young man, captivated by her beauty, sneaks into the gallery only to find out that Tyla is not just the muse but also the painter. As her portrait transforms into his likeness, Tyla ponders over the perfect spot to display his image alongside the other men who have fallen under her spell.
In the chorus, she entices with the lyrics, “Study my face, frame, put me on the wall/ Above the staircase, If you show me off/ I’ll be your piece/ Your A-R-T,” showcasing her allure and the intoxicating power of her artistry.
“Art” stands out as one of the 14 tracks on Tyla’s album, which also features her Billboard Hot 100 No. 7 hit and Grammy-winning single “Water,” along with a Travis Scott remix that comes with its own music video. The album is a rich tapestry of collaborations, including works with South African DJ/producer Kelvin Momo (“Intro”), Tems (“No. 1”), Gunna and Skillibeng (“Jump”), and Becky G (“On My Body”). Additionally, “Tyla” compiles previously released songs “Truth or Dare,” “On and On,” and “Butterflies” from a Tyla EP launched at the end of 2023, as well as her 2022 single “To Last.”
Prior to the album’s release, Tyla offered BLACKPINK’s Lisa an exclusive preview of “Art,” further highlighting the anticipation surrounding the project.
