Taylor Swift Question Leaves ‘Jeopardy!’ Contestants Baffled, Fearing Fan Backlash

In a recent episode of “Jeopardy: Tournament of Champions,” a question about Taylor Swift left all three contestants scratching their heads. During the show, Ben Chan, Yogesh Raut, and Troy Meyer couldn’t come up with the answer to a $400 question related to the 34-year-old singer-songwriter, under the category “Songs of Youth.”

Host Ken Jennings presented the clue, hinting at a song inspired by Swift’s close friend. The clue was, “Tay Tay sang about believing someone when they say ‘I love you’ at this specific age.” Despite the hint, the contestants struggled to find the correct response.

An image from the episode captured the moment, showcasing the challenge the contestants faced with the Taylor Swift question. Meyer, from Tampa Bay, Florida, and a music executive, guessed the age as 17. Raut, a psychologist from Vancouver, Washington, guessed 22.

The correct answer, however, was “Fifteen,” a track from Swift’s second studio album, “Fearless,” released in 2008. Swift has mentioned that “Fifteen” was inspired by her high school best friend, Abigail Anderson, and their experiences at that age, including a tough breakup.

Meyer humorously acknowledged their collective oversight, predicting they might face some playful criticism for missing the question. This Taylor Swift question turned out to be the only one that all three contestants failed to answer correctly in that episode, making it a notable moment for both the show and its viewers.

Chan, a philosophy professor from Green Bay, Wisconsin, Raut, and Meyer are all competing in the finals of the Tournament of Champions, vying for a $250,000 prize. Chan currently leads with two wins, while Meyer and Raut each have one.

Following the episode, fans of “Jeopardy!” and Taylor Swift took to social media to express their surprise and amusement that the contestants missed a question about the pop star. This isn’t the first time a Swift-related question has stumped “Jeopardy!” contestants. In May, a Final Jeopardy question about Swift also went unanswered, despite being immediately recognized by her fans online.

In January, “Jeopardy!” even dedicated an entire category to Swift, highlighting her significant impact on music and pop culture. This included questions about her songs and her highly successful The Eras Tour, demonstrating the show’s acknowledgment of Swift’s influence and popularity.
