When ABC News anchor Jonathan Karl posed a question to Senator Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) about the possibility of being chosen as Donald Trump’s vice-presidential candidate, he received a response that was more than he anticipated. Rubio had previously stated that it would be an “honor” to serve as Trump’s vice president, a sentiment that Karl found perplexing.
“Really?” Karl questioned, to which Rubio responded by emphasizing the honor of being offered the opportunity to serve the country as vice president. This standard and reasonable perspective seemed to confound Karl, especially in light of the events of January 6.
Karl referenced the Capitol riot, highlighting the mob’s calls against Mike Pence, but Rubio quickly shifted the focus back to the current administration’s shortcomings. He contrasted the state of the nation under President Joe Biden with its condition during Trump’s presidency, citing increased safety and prosperity under the latter.
Rubio didn’t hold back in his critique of Biden’s presidency, pointing to a series of crises and conflicts that have emerged globally since Biden took office. From the withdrawal from Afghanistan and the invasion of Ukraine to tensions in the Philippines and Haiti, Rubio painted a picture of a world in turmoil under Biden’s leadership.
Karl, seemingly taken aback by Rubio’s strong defense of Trump, stumbled over his words, questioning whether all these issues could indeed be attributed to Biden. Rubio confidently affirmed his stance, attributing the global unrest to Biden’s perceived weakness.
The conversation took a turn when Karl attempted to criticize Trump’s stance on the Ukraine conflict, suggesting that Trump’s desired outcome would favor Putin. Rubio quickly dismissed this claim, advocating for peace and questioning why anyone would oppose such a goal.
Despite Karl’s attempts to steer the conversation towards criticism of Trump, Rubio’s unwavering support for the former president and his critique of the current administration’s handling of national and global issues left a lasting impression.
