In Newport, Kentucky, a shocking event unfolded on a Saturday evening at Newport on the Levee. Three young individuals were injured in a shooting incident. The local police, who were present at the scene, heard the gunshots around 7:20 p.m. and immediately took action.
Upon arriving at the location, they discovered three victims suffering from gunshot injuries. Two of the injured were quickly taken to The Children’s Hospital, while the third was rushed to St. Elizabeth. Thankfully, the injuries were reported as non-life-threatening by the authorities.
Details regarding the identities and ages of the victims have not been disclosed yet. Eyewitnesses recounted a chaotic scene, with people fleeing the main courtyard area shortly after 7 p.m. One witness described seeing police officers rushing towards the scene, where one young person lay on the ground and another sat nearby. The area was promptly cordoned off by the police, who announced an active shooter situation.
Inside the complex, patrons at the Beeline bar, including Elizabeth Robinson, sought refuge. Robinson recounted how crowds began running through the bar, prompting everyone to seek cover. She described the moment as everyone huddled together and prayed, calling it a traumatizing experience. “I have never been in an active shooting before, and I’ve never been so scared in my life,” she said, recalling her plea for divine protection over them.
The courtyard of Newport on the Levee was later seen covered in crime scene tape. Police officers spent hours combing through the area for evidence, indicating the seriousness of the investigation.
Eva Kaiser, who was on her way to pick up her 18-year-old daughter working at the Levee, shared her anxiety when an officer informed her she couldn’t proceed to collect her daughter. Their reunion, filled with relief, occurred about 90 minutes later. Despite her fears, Kaiser acknowledged the necessity of her daughter’s job for their livelihood.
Detectives are diligently investigating the incident, which they currently believe to be an isolated event rather than a random attack. They have reassured the public that there is no imminent danger, suggesting that the shooter and the victims were likely acquainted. All individuals involved are believed to be juveniles.
As the investigation continues, the police have yet to identify any suspects. They urge anyone with information about the shooting to contact Campbell County Dispatch at (859) 292-3622 and request to speak with a detective.
