Christina Huntspon now faces serious accusations from St. Louis County prosecutors. She’s been charged with first-degree endangering the welfare of a child resulting in death. Huntspon is currently detained at the St. Louis County Justice Center, with bail set at a staggering $500,000 cash-only.
The incident came to light on a Saturday evening, just before 6:30 p.m., when police were called to a residence on Cozens Avenue. There, they discovered an unresponsive child in her father’s bed. Initial findings suggested the child had overdosed after coming into contact with heroin. Near the bed, officers found several capsules believed to contain the drug.
Huntspon, 32, confessed to battling a severe drug addiction and admitted to using heroin that Saturday morning inside the house. She acknowledged her addiction likely led to her daughter’s death, stating no one else could have brought the drugs into their home.
The young girl, identified as Sanna Riggins, was rushed to St. Louis Children’s Hospital, where she later passed away. Despite the mother’s struggles with addiction, the girl’s father, who had legal custody due to Huntspon’s drug use, showed no signs of drug involvement.
It was also revealed that Huntspon had drugs in her system at the time of Sanna’s birth. The investigation into this heart-wrenching incident is being led by the St. Louis County Police Department Bureau of Crimes Against Persons detectives.
