A student at Victor Valley College found themselves behind bars for possessing a loaded firearm on campus this past Wednesday, according to school authorities.
At approximately 4:15 p.m., two students alerted the campus police after witnessing a peer brandishing a handgun near the campus’s lake area, reported college spokesperson Robert Sewell.
Campus police swiftly took action, apprehending the individual without any complications, Sewell confirmed.
Further investigation led to the uncovering of a loaded handgun stashed within a book locker at the Student Activities Center. The student faced arrest under the suspicion of having a loaded gun on college premises.
The identity of the suspect remained undisclosed as of Wednesday evening.
Sewell expressed gratitude towards the students who promptly reported the sighting and commended the campus police for their immediate and effective response. He noted that the incident did not result in any injuries.
It’s important to highlight that under the Gun-Free School Zone Act of California, carrying a firearm on a college campus constitutes a felony offense, even for those with a concealed carry permit.
