In a tragic incident in the Bronx, a woman was arrested after she fatally assaulted her mother with a cooking pot and subsequently made a chilling confession to the authorities. The suspect, identified as 26-year-old Skydajah Patterson, had recently been discharged from a mental health facility prior to the incident. The attack occurred in their residence within the NYCHA’s President Adams Houses early on Monday, around 3:40 a.m., according to police reports and sources close to the investigation.
Upon receiving Patterson’s call, emergency services rushed to the scene, where they discovered 46-year-old Selma Mclean in a lifeless state, bearing significant injuries to her face and head. Eyewitnesses reported that Patterson was found in possession of the blood-stained pot used in the attack.
Patterson reportedly confessed to striking her mother on the back of the head with the kitchen utensil, rendering her unconscious. Despite the efforts of the responding officers, Mclean was declared deceased at the location of the incident.
As of late Monday afternoon, Patterson had been detained but had not yet been formally charged, according to police statements.
The family and friends of the victim are in shock, struggling to come to terms with the horrifying event. Danaeyah Reynolds, Mclean’s goddaughter, shared distressing details about Patterson’s mental health struggles leading up to the incident. According to Reynolds, Patterson had been experiencing severe psychological distress, marked by auditory hallucinations and a previous assault on her mother.
This incident has left the community and the family grappling with grief and unanswered questions about mental health and safety. The investigation is ongoing, and further details are awaited as the authorities and the family seek justice for Selma Mclean.
