CCTV Footage Reveals Crafty Canines Collaborating to Snatch Owner’s Snacks

Fans of Brianna Madia are well-versed in the tales of her four dignified and well-mannered dogs, who have been her pillars of emotional support during her solitary life in the Utah desert. However, a twist in the narrative emerged when a social media video revealed one of Madia’s famed dogs engaging in an unexpected scavenger hunt through an old trash bin in her house, evidently in pursuit of leftover food scraps.

The video, which quickly went viral, amassing over 355,000 views since its release on Instagram on March 3, showcases Madia’s eldest dog, Bucket, meticulously rummaging through the kitchen trash for food remnants. Much to Madia’s astonishment, the footage also shows her other three dogs opting out of the kitchen caper, merely casting judgmental glances at their sibling Bucket, while vigilantly awaiting their owner’s return.

“My fiancé and I recently installed these cameras at home,” shared Madia, a New York Times bestselling author, with Newsweek. “Having four dogs means the odd mess or trash adventure isn’t really surprising. However, we were oblivious to the fact that Bucket was always the lone mischief-maker!”

The video humorously highlighted that while the other dogs seemed to express a ‘we want no part in this’ attitude through their body language, there’s a reason why Bucket is affectionately dubbed ‘the queen.’ At 13 years old, she has a storied reputation for invariably getting her way.

Madia’s cherished dogs play a significant role in her second book, “Never Leave the Dogs Behind,” a follow-up to her debut memoir “Nowhere for Very Long.” In this sequel, Madia delves into the challenges of travel, nomadic life, and van living, experiences she has extensively documented on her Instagram account, @briannamadia, which boasts over 300,000 followers.

The Instagram post, accompanied by a candid caption from Madia, stating, “Enjoy this highly intelligent, extremely poor behavior from Bucket who, when asked for comment about the situation, told me to go f*** myself,” has elicited laughter and amusement among her followers. Comments range from calling the incident “classic” and “awesome” to expressing sheer joy at the dogs’ antics. Madia’s other three dogs are named Dagwood, Birdie, and Banjo.

For those eager to share the delightful and humorous moments of their pets, Madia encourages sending videos or pictures to life@newsweek.com for a chance to be featured in their Pet of the Week lineup. This initiative is part of Newsweek’s commitment to challenging conventional wisdom and fostering connections in the quest for common ground.
