Michael Jonas Launches Ambitious Bid for Oregon’s 3rd Congressional District Seat

This week, Michael Jonas made an appearance on Eye on Northwest Politics.

In Portland, Oregon, a remarkable trend is emerging in this election cycle. An increasing number of citizens, many of whom have never sought elected office before, are stepping into the political arena. Among them is Michael Jonas.

Jonas has thrown his hat into the ring for Oregon’s 3rd Congressional District, a seat left open by the retirement of Earl Blumenauer.

With a background as a lawyer, community advocate, and small business owner, Jonas, a progressive Democrat, is competing in a field that includes seasoned politicians. His opponents include the likes of former Multnomah County Commissioner Susheela Jayapal, Gresham City Councilor Eddy Morales, and State Representative Maxine Dexter, among others.

During his time on Eye on Northwest Politics, Jonas shared the inspiration behind his campaign slogan, “Love, Science, Plans and Action.” He discussed how his experiences in the nonprofit sector and as a lawyer have equipped him for a role in the U.S. House. He also expressed his belief in his ability to bring about change in a divided Congress and identified his top priority if elected.

Jonas highlighted specific issues facing Congressional District 3, which encompasses most of Multnomah County, including Gresham, Troutdale, and East Portland, as well as parts of Clackamas County and all of Hood River County, that he believes warrant congressional attention.
